Scouts slept in the tents that they had seam-sealed at the Troop picnic. The Troop began to unpack everything as we arrived. We found out that we had been switched to the Lions Den site by the camp staff. (This was a larger site.) Some of the Scouts got permission to use a trolley handtruck which made it a lot easier to carry gear, especially the coolers. We made 2 trips with the truck. After all the gear was unloaded we began to pick tent sites. We had a great time setting up the tents but some of us forgot how to do this and they got razzed. Since, this was a retraining hike on Scout Skills we had 3 presentations by the youth leaders. The first one was by Connor McGrath about survival. Gabriel L. did a presentation on lashings. Finally, Kevin B. did a class on types of fires and fire lays. We then had free time before getting ready for dinner. All the Patrols had excellent menus and they exchanged samples with each other. Every Patrol also had a duty roster as we had learned to do at TMR summer camp. We then had about an hour and half of free time to work on skits and cheers for our campfire. Troop 70 from Hudson Valley Council, who were in a neighboring site, joined us for our campfire and Cracker Barrel. Troop 70 had some excellent skits that had a lesson to them. At the close of the campfire we all sang songs, including the Troop song. Troop 70 was impressed we had a Troop song and they are going to work on one for themselves. On Sunday we woke up early and quickly got packed up before making a substantial breakfast. We then had our interfaith services conducted by Chaplain Ed. We were then ready to go home. PS: We beat Troop 70 in football but we were not able to play them in Ultimate Frisbee. Overall I would rate this as an excellent overnight. -- James N., Troop Scribe. Additional Comments: The leaders of Troop 70 were very impressed with our youth leaders and that all of them had been NYLT trained. Again we did a super job cleaning up the site and adjoining areas which was remarked upon by the camp ranger. Also, what impressed everyone was the fact that we held interfaith services and the camp personal stated that they do not see many units do that anymore. Again our guys were very impressive to outsiders -- Joe Acquafredda, Scoutmaster. |
