| When I first entered the auditorium, the lobby was packed with new kids and their parents. (Over 70 attendees!) I also saw Scouts that haven't been to meetings in a while. Erik Z. was acting as host seating the parents and their sons. Refreshments were set up in the front for the quests. We formed into patrols with Michael S. and Gabriel L. acting as leaders for the two patrols of new boys for our opening. The SPL explained our procedures and the SM reviewed a few items. Justin A. then made a presentation about how to pack a backpack. This routine was hilarious. One of the new boys even caught Justin because he did not have extra batteries for his flashlight. But Justin A. fooled everyone because he had not only one flashlight, not two flashlights, but three flashlights in his pack. Michael S. gave a presentation on Boy Scout values. The SPL explained about ranks and leadership positions. Then all the youth members went outside to play "Steal the Bacon." Michael Fz. dominated in this game because he caught practically everyone trying to Steal the Bacon from him. The parents stayed in the auditorium and were addressed by our Scoutmaster, Joe Acquafredda, the Troop Committee Chairperson, Rick Zeidler, the Troop Advancement Coordinator, Bette McGrath, and by the ASM For Administration, Jim Dell. We closed the meeting with the SPL explaining about our "2 clap, 2 stomp" dismissal. 18 perspective new boys, and their parents, came to the meeting. Each parent received an information packet about T240 and the Boy Scouts Of America. They also received a copy of our on-line newsletter, "the BackPacker," and a copy of our last Eagle Dinner Journal. They were also spoken to by many parents who already belong to the Troop. As of this writing, four boys have already signed up. They were given their Troop Manuals and their parents received the New Parent Manual. We are waiting to see how many more join. P.S. I almost forgot: the one thing Justin did not have in his backpack was some toilet paper. I guess he'll have to use leaves. -- James N., Troop Scribe. |
