Hike # 8: Rockefeller Nature Preserve, Carriage Trails

Scout Participants: Patrick B., Sean B., Michael For., Dominick P., William W., and Erik Z. Adult Participants: Chris Browne, Michael For's Cousin Chris, and myself.

Our last hike of the season was in neighboring Westchester County at RNP. The day dawned hot and muggy, but the "Fearless 9," armed with water headed out on the trails. Compared to other hikes, this was a walk in the park, but several steep inclines in 90 degree weather made this hike at times as strenuous as others. Along the many trails we met with hikers, joggers, dog walkers, equestrians and even an old fashioned carriage drawn by two beautiful chestnut horses trotting in unison. We also saw many frogs, turtles, tadpoles and (despite Erik Z.'s best efforts) a few elusive water snakes along the way. -- Ellen Beltran, Troop Committee Member, and Hike Guide.
